Studio Policy & Registration
Course Outlines & Goals
Each student will be given repertoire based on his/her/their abilities and interests. Students are expected to practice both vocal warm-up exercises and music for 30-60 minutes each day 3-5 times each week. The length and frequency of practice time will depend on the individual student’s needs. Each lesson will focus on different aspects of vocal technique and vocal performance as the instructor sees fit.
Tuition & Fees
Tuition is based on the length of the lesson and tuition plan (Monthly Tuition Plan, Quarterly Tuition Plan, Pay Per Lesson Plan). Tuition payments may be made online via Zelle or Venmo or by cash or check. Invoices or tuition reminders will be sent ONLY as a courtesy. Students are expected to pay their tuition on time regardless of receipt of such invoices or tuition reminders.
PAY PER LESSON PLAN: Students will need to schedule lessons on a week to week basis and may not be guaranteed a regular weekly lesson block. Pay Per Lesson Tuition is due the day of the scheduled lesson.
MONTHLY TUITION PLAN: Students will have a regular lesson block each week and will receive up to 4 lessons per month. If there are 5 lessons in the month, the 5th lesson is treated as either a “bonus” lesson or a “make-up” lesson and will not be made up in the event of a cancellation. More details regarding the 5th Lesson Rule can be found below under the Missed Lessons section. Monthly tuition will be due on the 20th of the preceding month. A late fee of $30 will be charged to the student if the monthly tuition is not received by the 1st of the month.
QUARTERLY TUITION PLAN: Students will have a regular lesson block each week and will receive up to 12 lessons per quarter (3 consecutive months). When there is a month within the quarter with 5 lessons, the 5th Lesson Rule will apply. Quarterly tuition will be due 10 days before the start of the quarter (TBA).
Lesson Length | Pay Per Lesson | Monthly Tuition | Quarterly Tuition |
---|---|---|---|
30 minutes | $55 | $190 | $560 |
45 minutes | $70 | $250 | $740 |
60 minutes | $90 | $325 | $960 |
Monthly tuition will NOT be prorated without proper consent of the instructor and only may be done so in special circumstances. If a student is permitted to prorate the monthly tuition, the prorated tuition will be the Pay Per Lesson rate.
There is a $45.00 charge for all returned checks in addition to any bank fees incurred by the instructor from the returned check. In the event that a check is returned for insufficient funds, etc., future tuition payments must be paid in cash or online via Zelle or Venmo.
Most lessons will be held at the home of the vocal instructor in Alexandria, VA or online. An additional fee will be added to the tuition to cover travel expenses for students having lessons outside of the instructor’s home. This fee will be determined by the mileage and travel time incurred by the instructor.
Cancellation of Services
If the student chooses to discontinue lessons, notice must be given in writing 2 weeks in advance. If the student has not received all prepaid lessons prior to stopping/pausing lessons, the student has 60 days after informing the instructor to receive any remaining lessons. There are NO refunds.
Missed Lessons
Students must notify the instructor of an absence at least 24 hours in advance. Only one make-up lesson per month is permitted except in special circumstances. Make-up lessons are offered ONLY when 24 hours notice of absence is given. If the instructor does not receive notification within that time, NO make-up lesson will be offered and the student will be charged for that lesson.
5th Lesson Rule: There is NO additional charge when there are 5 lessons in a month for students on the Monthly or Quarterly Tuition Plans. Therefore, the 5th lesson is treated as either a “bonus” lesson or a “make-up” lesson if the student is owed any make-ups. No make-up lessons will be given for the 5th lesson if it is canceled, whether it is canceled by the student or the instructor.
Once a make-up lesson has been scheduled, it will NOT be rescheduled. If the student does not show up for his/her/their lesson and gives no advanced notice for more than two consecutive weeks, his/her/their lesson time will be forfeited.
Please be on time, as the teacher cannot go over the allotted time.
Holidays & Inclement Weather
Classes ARE held on most school holidays and/or school closings. Students will be notified by the instructor if there are to be any cancellations. In the event of inclement weather, virtual lessons can be done in place of in-person lessons.
Voice Recitals & Master Classes
Students will have the opportunity to perform in voice recitals and master classes given year-round at the instructor’s discretion. Master classes allow students the chance to perform in front of their peers in a safe and friendly learning environment. Students will need to pay both a Recital Fee and an Accompanist Fee for participation in master classes and recitals. There are NO refunds for either the Recital Fee or the Accompanist Fee. The Recital Fee covers rental costs of the recital and rehearsal space, recital printing costs, and other recital and master class related expenses. The Accompanist Fee covers music rehearsals, the master class, and the voice recital. Students performing in master classes and/or voice recitals will be expected to rehearse with the designated accompanist and attend all music and staging rehearsals. A Recital Info Packet with more details regarding the voice recital and master class will be available one month before each recital. Please note, the master class and music rehearsals count towards 60 minutes or more of lesson time.
Music Books & Supplies
Students will need to purchase any books or sheet music designated by the instructor. Most music will be provided at little or no cost to the student. Students are expected to bring their sheet music to every lesson and are encouraged to record their lessons and keep a music journal.
